Hi Andy, in response to your question regarding Allogenic (donor) versus Autologous (from self) transplant: receiving stem cells from a donor, such as a matched sibling means, gives you healthier and potentially cancer free cells. The risk is a lot higher because the body doesn't always accept the donor cells and sometimes wants to reject them which is called Graft Versus Host disease. In a patient with the chromosome complications the outlook is pretty grim, therefor the jump to the more dangerous though more effective treatment as his genes are so confused.

sorry, my name is Claire and my husband just had an Auto transplant

I can advise you to help your uncle get as healthy (aside from cancer) as he possibly can before he goes into transplant and during his prep-treatment. Drink enough to keep the kidneys flushed, eat right to detox the liver, take supplements for heart and lungs and keep any neuropathy under control with Alpha Lipoic Acid and similar supplements. No matter where he goes with his treatment it is usually the toxic treatment that eventually gets you, so detox and eat and drink nutrients and foods that are easy for the body to digest and stay away from junk food, processed or pre cooked meals.
